The Propeller – Forget Capes, Real Superheroes Wear New Balance Shoes – Happy Father’s Day! – 6-16-2024

The Original Superhero

Father’s Day is upon us, and it’s time to celebrate the unsung heroes who’ve been our pillars of strength, fountains of wisdom, and endless reservoirs of bad jokes. Yes, I’m talking about dads. Today, I want to give a special shoutout to my amazing father, who has been the epitome of support and encouragement throughout my life.

Growing up, my dad was always there for me, not just physically, but in every imaginable way. He was the one who opened the door to the fascinating world of technology.

The Tech-Savvy Dad

My father’s influence on my career path is undeniable. He has always had a knack for gadgets, always buying tech before others had it, and a curiosity about how things work. I remember building our first computer (Timex Sinclair) and learning about each component. Those sessions around how to use many computers were more than just lessons in technology; they were lessons in problem-solving, perseverance, and creativity. He taught me that there’s no such thing as failure, only opportunities to learn and grow.

A Support System Like No Other

What truly sets my dad apart is his unwavering support. When I launched one of my first startups – The Hard Drive Cafe – he was my advisor and one of my biggest supporters. His belief in me has been a constant source of motivation, pushing me to strive for excellence.

Life Lessons Beyond the Screen

But my dad’s influence extends far beyond the realm of technology. He’s taught me the importance of hard work, integrity, and humility. He’s shown me how to balance ambition with integrity, and how to stay grounded while reaching for the stars. His life lessons are woven into the fabric of my being, guiding me through every challenge and triumph.

So, on this Father’s Day, I want to take a moment to say thank you to my incredible dad. Thank you for being my rock, my mentor, and my friend. Thank you for the countless hours spent teaching, guiding, and supporting me (and free legal advice!). You’ve shaped me into the person I am today, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

To all the dads out there, know that your love, support, and efforts do not go unnoticed – even though we might not directly show it.   You are the original superheroes, the ones who make the world a better place just by being in it. Happy Father’s Day!

The Point of No Return – Across the World in an Experimental Airplane

Buckle up, aviation enthusiasts, because you’re in for a treat! JP Schulze, a fellow pilot and entrepreneur, has crafted some of the most captivating YouTube videos out there. Last year, he embarked on an incredible and daring journey by building an experimental aircraft (a Sling) and flying it all the way from South Africa to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the legendary AirVenture airshow.

Flying a single-engine plane across the ocean is a rare and dangerous feat, but JP tackled it head-on, showcasing his remarkable skills and determination. He documented the entire adventure in a stunning, documentary-style video. The footage is nothing short of breathtaking, with amazing cinematography that captures the essence of this epic journey. At two hours long, it’s the perfect excuse to kick back, relax, and watch it on a large screen or your TV for the full effect.

Trust me, you don’t want to miss this. Follow the link below and get ready to soar alongside JP on this unforgettable flight.

Cut Your Cell Phone Costs

Are you still paying more than $30 a month for your cell phone service? If so, it’s time for a change because you’re definitely overpaying.

Enter Mint Mobile. After years with T-Mobile, I made the switch and haven’t looked back. For just $15 a month, I get unlimited talk, and text, and 5 GB of data, and for $30 a month, you can enjoy unlimited data. The best part? Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s towers, so you get the same great coverage without the hefty price tag. Plus, the switch took me all of 10 minutes!

Remember, every $100 you trim from your monthly expenses translates to needing $30,000 less in net worth to achieve Financial Independence (FI). Small changes, like switching to Mint Mobile, can have a big impact.

Ready to make the switch? Use this link to sign up and get a $15 credit. And full disclosure, I’ll get a little something too.   http://fbuy.me/uPIjX

What I Read Last Week

F.I.R.E. for Dummies by Jackie Cummings Koski is a must-read for anyone interested in achieving Financial Independence and Retiring Early (F.I.R.E.). Jackie, a friend and former attendee of the ColumbusFI meetups, where we both grew our early F.I.R.E. journeys, has poured her wealth of knowledge and personal experience into this comprehensive guide. Retiring at the impressive age of 49, Jackie exemplifies the principles she discusses with clarity and passion.

Here are the top three points that make this book a standout:

Practical Strategies and Step-by-Step Guidance:
Jackie excels in breaking down complex financial concepts into manageable steps. Whether you are just starting on your FIRE journey or are already on your way, her actionable strategies on budgeting, investing, and saving are invaluable. The book includes real-life examples and easy-to-follow plans that make the path to financial independence accessible to everyone.

Mindset and Motivation:
One of the most compelling aspects of “FIRE for Dummies” is Jackie’s emphasis on the psychological aspects of pursuing FIRE. She delves into the mindset shifts necessary for success, such as developing a frugal yet fulfilling lifestyle, setting long-term goals, and staying motivated. Her personal anecdotes, including her time meeting others on the financial independence journey in groups like ColumbusFI, add an inspirational touch that resonates deeply with readers.

Diverse Perspectives and Inclusivity:
Jackie’s approach to FIRE is refreshingly inclusive. She addresses the unique challenges faced by different demographics, including single parents, minorities, and those with lower incomes. By sharing her own experiences and those of a diverse range of F.I.R.E. enthusiasts, Jackie ensures that everyone can find relevant advice and encouragement within the pages of her book.

F.I.R.E. for Dummies is more than just a guide; it’s a companion for anyone serious about taking control of their financial future. Jackie’s expertise, combined with her relatable storytelling, makes this book an essential resource. As someone who has had the pleasure of witnessing her journey firsthand at our ColumbusFI meetups, I can attest to the authenticity and effectiveness of her advice. This book is not just about retiring early; it’s about living a life of freedom and purpose.

Cheers to the dads who fix everything with duct tape, solve problems with dad jokes, and claim they “weren’t sleeping, just resting their eyes.”
