The Propeller – July 23, 2023 – Having Dinner with Harrison Ford

The Busiest
Airport in the World this Week – Oshkosh, Wisconsin

The AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is an awe-inspiring aviation event that captures the hearts of aviation enthusiasts from around the world. Held annually, this grand gathering is organized by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and is a testament to the passion and innovation within the aviation community.  Pilots and spectators alike converge on Wittman Regional Airport, transforming it into a bustling hub of aviation marvels (Over 10,000
airplanes fly in for this event, making it the busiest airport in the
World). The week-long extravaganza showcases a spectacular array of
aircraft, ranging from vintage planes to cutting-edge experimental
designs. The event also hosts informative workshops, inspiring keynote
speakers, and thrilling aerial displays, including aerobatics and
formation flights. For anyone with a fascination for flight, AirVenture
in Oshkosh is an unforgettable celebration of all things aviation,
fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared wonder among its attendees.

Regrettably, I won’t be able to attend the AirVenture airshow this year,
but I cherish the memories of my previous visits, each of which was an
absolute blast. The camaraderie with fellow pilots from different corners
of the globe and the opportunity to connect with renowned aviators made
every experience special. One unforgettable moment was sharing an evening
dinner with the legendary Harrison Ford, who holds the unique distinction
of having logged time in a Millennium Falcon! Undoubtedly, the most
thrilling part was piloting my own aircraft into this aviation mecca,
albeit with some nervousness as thousands of skilled pilots observed the
landing. AirVenture remains an unparalleled gathering for aviation
enthusiasts like me, etching cherished memories that last a
lifetime.

Freeze Your
Credit

The last thing you are probably thinking of on
these blistering hot days of summer is freezing, but that is exactly what
you should be doing with your credit, if you haven’t already.
There are many scammers out there preying upon people in innovatively
creative ways, and freezing your credit is one step in helping protect
you from being preyed upon.

What is a credit
freeze?

A credit freeze is one way to protect yourself
against identity theft. It entails restricting access to your credit
report to minimize the chance of identity thieves opening new accounts in
your name. You’ll need to give personal consent for your credit to be
viewed.

Since creditors need to view your credit report
before approving any new accounts opened in your name, a credit freeze is
one way to stay ahead of fraud and is especially smart if you suspect
that someone has already gained access to your personal information.

Are there any
downsides to a credit freeze?

A credit freeze won’t affect your credit in any
harmful way. It doesn’t affect your credit score and won’t pose any
difficulties to renting an apartment or applying for insurance. You’ll
still be able to open new accounts, though you’ll have to lift the freeze
temporarily in order to do so.

How to freeze your
credit:

Learning how to freeze your credit is free and
relatively simple to do. You’ll need to contact the 3 major credit
bureaus separately and provide your SSN, birthday, and personal
information. You’ll be given a password, which is what you’ll also use to
unfreeze your credit when needed.

Freeze or lift the freeze on your credit report for
free by contacting each of the three major credit reporting agencies:

You can submit your request online, by phone, or by
mail.

Tour an Amazon
Fulfillment Center Virtually

I recently had a chance to do a virtual tour of
an Amazon Fulfillment Center and I was amazed about all the technology
that goes into making sure we all receive those Amaon order so quickly.

My virtual tour of an Amazon Fulfillment Center was a fascinating and
immersive experience that offered a glimpse into the cutting-edge world
of e-commerce logistics. From the comfort of my desk chair, I was
transported into the bustling heart of one of Amazon’s massive
fulfillment centers, a behemoth of modern warehousing and order
processing. As you navigate through the facility with live real-time tour
guide, the sheer scale and efficiency of the operation becomes apparent,
with robotic systems and human workers working seamlessly in tandem to
fulfill orders with incredible speed and precision. The virtual tour
allows you to witness the intricacies of the order fulfillment process,
from the moment an item is received at the center to its final packaging
and shipping. The sight of countless products whizzing along conveyor
belts and the mesmerizing choreography of robots orchestrating storage
and retrieval is a testament to the power of innovation and technology in
the world of logistics. The virtual tour of an Amazon Fulfillment Center
is not only an educational experience but also a reminder of how the
e-commerce giant has revolutionized the way we shop and receive our
purchases.

What I’m
Reading/Listening To This Week

My goal of reading one book a week in 2023 is
still underway.  I am on book number 28 this week!

What I read Last
week:

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson is a motivational and self-help book that offers readers a powerful perspective on how to achieve success and happiness through small, consistent actions. The book revolves around the idea that seemingly insignificant choices made every
day can compound over time, leading to either remarkable success or
devastating failure. Olson emphasizes the importance of adopting positive
habits and consistently working towards one’s goals, no matter how small
the steps may seem. Through relatable anecdotes, insightful examples, and
practical strategies, Olson guides readers on how to harness the power of
the slight edge to transform their lives and achieve long-term success in
various areas, including finances, health, relationships, and personal
growth. The book serves as a reminder that every decision we make, no
matter how small, can significantly impact our future, and by mastering
the slight edge, we can turn these choices into a powerful force for
personal development and achievement.

I think these top three points that I got out of the book are very important:

  1. The Power of Small Actions: The book emphasizes the immense impact of
small, seemingly insignificant actions repeated consistently over
time. Olson introduces the concept of the slight edge, which
suggests that daily habits and choices, no matter how small, can
compound to create significant outcomes. Whether it’s reading a few
pages of a self-improvement book every day, saving a small amount of
money regularly, or making healthier food choices consistently,
these seemingly minor decisions can lead to substantial improvements
    in one’s life over time.
  2. Consistency is Key: A central theme in the book is the
importance of consistency. Olson stresses that it’s not the grand
gestures or sporadic efforts that determine success, but rather the
daily commitment to positive habits and continuous improvement. The
slight edge works both ways – consistent positive actions lead to
success, while consistent negative actions lead to failure. By
embracing consistency and maintaining focus on long-term goals,
individuals can create a positive momentum that propels them toward
success in various aspects of life.
  3. The Ripple Effect of Choices: Another significant point in the book is
the notion of the ripple effect caused by our choices. Olson
illustrates how each decision we make influences the next one, and
our choices create a chain reaction that shapes our future. Making
positive choices can lead to further positive actions, while
negative choices can set off a chain of detrimental consequences.
The key lies in recognizing the power of our decisions and making
conscious choices that align with our long-term vision and goals.

In conclusion, The Slight Edge is a thought-provoking and inspiring book that presents a simple yet profound philosophy for achieving success and fulfillment. Jeff Olson’s emphasis on the power of small, consistent actions resonates with readers seeking to improve various aspects of their lives. By embracing the principles of the slight edge, readers can cultivate positive habits, persevere through challenges, and ultimately create a life of purpose and achievement. With its practical advice and motivational approach, this book has become a cherished guide for those on the path to personal growth and success.
